Amazing Takeout Options From Cannon Beach Restaurants

Ordering takeout doesn’t mean you have to be resigned to the same old things, soggy bread and limp fries. A visit to Cannon Beach offers some smart takeout options that will offer great in-room dining experiences perfect for a winter visit to the Oregon Coast.

Of course, you will find lots of options for traditional takeout including pizza, burgers, fish and chips, and tacos, but the specific ideas below are local favorites that make can’t miss meals worth celebrating even out of a takeout container.

Taste of the Sea: Fresh Seafood

When you’re at the coast, it’s hard to go wrong with fresh seafood and it can make the perfect takeout meal. Fresh crab and shrimp cocktails can be found at several places including Ecola Seafoods, a local fishing family-run seafood market and casual restaurant. Crab and shrimp cocktails are everyday classics at the Driftwood Restaurant where a grilled prawn cocktail includes six large chilled prawns with the house-made cocktail sauce. Since it’s designed to be served chilled, consider ceviche for something a little different. Cannon Beach Hardware and Public House and Mi Corazon offer halibut ceviche, bursting with flavors of seafood and citrus, served with house-made tortilla chips.

Rich and Warm: Soups and Chowders

Soups are a can’t-go-wrong takeout option and several Cannon Beach restaurants take their soup seriously. Of course, chowder is a classic at the coast and you will find it to-go at most restaurants. Many locals will direct you to Driftwood Restaurant or The Wayfarer Restaurant for classic examples of clam chowder, but there are many fine examples of clam and seafood chowder that make more than just a casual meal. For soups taken seriously, check out the two or three soups of the day at Seasons Café, the remarkably rich seafood bisque in lobster stock from Corbins or Castaways’ lobster bisque with brandy.

Fresh and Hearty: Entrée Salads

Salads make great takeout and you don’t have to settle for a boring plate of greens. Entrée salads can be a satisfying meal in themselves that won’t suffer from sitting in a takeout container. At Seasons Café, the Cobb Salad is hearty with heaping portions of chicken, bacon, avocado, and crumbled blue cheese. The Spicy Shrimp Caesar is more curry than spicy and comes with sunflower seeds and cranberries that add texture and contrast. For locally made smoked additions to a salad, Cannon Beach Smokehouse offers a bacon-spinach salad with house-made bacon, blue cheese crumbles, and candied walnuts. For a meat eater’s dream salad, you can add the house-pulled pork brisket. The Lazy Susan Café’s hot seafood salad features mixed greens that are meant to be wilted, so it travels and holds up well, featuring sauteed scallops, bay shrimp, pepper-bacon and sweet red peppers layered on mixed greens and served with a chardonnay-vinaigrette on the side and a sprinkle of parmesan cheese. Tom’s Fish & Chips is geared for takeout and their blackened salmon Caesar makes a flavorful and affordable light, healthy entrée.

The Art of Low and Slow: Smoked and Cured Delicacies

Smoked meats and seafoods are elevated to an art form in the hands of caring businesses and Cannon Beach offers a few examples. Smoked salmon is offered as an accompaniment to salads at some restaurants or you can start an upscale meal with a moist filet of house-smoked salmon at Ecola Seafoods. There are always a few options at Cannon Beach Smokehouse. Order in advance and you could munch on a custom charcuterie platter for days. Their takeout menu offers a snack box with a variety of sliced meats, cheeses, nuts, and dried fruit. It’s a meal for one, or a snack for two.

Fine Dining That Travels Well

Cannon Beach is known for its intimate upscale dining and great restaurants are a short drive away, so your hot entree doesn’t need to sit in its to-go container long. For upscale dinners that travel well, consider Bistro’s rich cioppino, full of local seafood including clams, mussels, prawns, scallops, and fresh fish in a konbu and bonito tomato broth with Jasmine rice. Castaways offers Jambalaya with andouille sausage, chicken, onions, sweet peppers, and tomatoes sauteed in a savory broth served with basmati rice. At Wayfarer Restaurant, the Dungeness Crab Mac and Cheese or white truffle vegetable risotto lose little in translation to takeout. At Pelican Brewing Co, gourmet flatbreads offer imaginative combinations including smoked tri-tip with creamy alfredo sauce, roasted tomatoes, red onion, mozzarella, and a dusting of fresh herbs. The poblano chicken features beer-brined applewood smoked chicken with poblano peppers topped with a Tabasco ranch and cilantro. You can pick up the suggested beer pairing to go with your order.

Most Cannon Beach restaurants offer online takeout menus for you to find your own perfect in-room dining experience. It’s always a good idea to confirm restaurant hours that can vary related to the season and statewide restrictions.

Strain Review: Cannon Beach Cookies by Oregrown

So, @oregrownindustries has their indoor operation up and running. Most, maybe all, of their house flower up until recently has been greenhouse bud that didn’t go into extracts. The new indoor stuff isn’t some top notch, connoisseur grade shit. For the price, though, the Cannon Beach Cookies they’re running is hard to beat.

Cannon Beach Cookies Strain Review

It’s another very kushy addition to my medicine cabinet. Lots of dark green and deep purple hues to these resin coated buds. Standard kush profile. Coffee and chocolate, but some berry/black cherry notes underneath that really makes it just smell like a fruity coffee blend you’d get from one of those mail order services.

It’s on the bakey side when it comes to the high. Active headspace, no narcotic effect on the body, but it’s also pleasantly relaxing. Weight on the eyelids, bloodshot eyes and a strong case of the giggles. Looking at and smelling it gives a false impression of indica effects, but this is a real pleasant hybrid.

Oregrown is far from without their issues (it’s corporate cannabis), but I think they’re overall a pretty solid option for consumers. They get a lot of really hot drops, the staff are fantastic, and even the house stuff is good quality. Sounds like they’re going to be putting out a solventless line soon, and even potentially switching to living soil. In a time where weed is close to its most expensive, you could do considerably worse for the price.
